Summerwood™ is a 1,500-acre master-planned community located in northeast Houston. With its location at Beltway 8 and W. Lake Houston Parkway, Summerwood offers great access to all parts of the greater Houston area.
Location. Location. Location. From big city glitz and glamour just south on Beltway 8. To glistening water and tree-lined nature only seconds from your doorstep. The Summerwood community in northeast Houston has it all. You'll find highly respected schools, great recreation opportunities and countless things to do. Explore the signs of Summerwood - just beyond the beltway.
The Summerwood™ community was built to last. Not just the homes themselves, but the grounds on which they rest. And the parks in between them. And the lakes beside them. That's why the Texas Council of Engineering Companies awarded Summerwood the Silver Medal for our ongoing efforts to preserve 150 acres of wetlands that enhance open spaces and provide habitat for native species.
We've made getting exercise and being green even easier with walking trails that connect you to everything within Summerwood. It's a great way you can take steps to reduce your carbon footprint.
Houston's climate lends itself to lush landscaping. And the Summerwood community does its part to keep it green by using organic fertilizer. So not only are your surroundings beautiful, they're kind to the planet.
Every single one of our builders works to exceed Energy Star® home requirements. That means better windows, precise duct work, and high grade insulation. It saves more than money, it preserves our climate.
Not only do we pick up commonly recycled items, Newland Communities in Houston provides opportunities for difficult hazardous waste recycling like batteries and paint cans.
We make spotting storm sewers easy with signs on each one. This educates and encourages people to eliminate liquid or solid substances from flowing untreated into area waterways.
Humble ISD named to AP Achievement List by College Board
Here's the latest good news about Summerwood schools: the Humble Independent School District is one of fewer than 400 school districts in the nation named to the College Board's Advanced Placement (AP) Achievement List. ?
Given to less than 3% of the nation's approximately 15,000 school districts, the honor recognizes school districts such as Humble ISD for opening AP classroom doors to a significantly broader pool of students, while maintaining or improving the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher, the score typically needed to earn a college credit.
From 2008-10, Humble ISD increased the number of students participating in AP from 479 to 708. The district also increased the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher from 66% in 2008 to 68% in 2010.
"Participation in college-level AP courses raise standards and performance in key subjects like science and math," said College Board President Gaston Caperton.
The College Board's Advanced Placement Program enables students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. Through more than 30 college-level courses, each culminating in a rigorous exam, AP provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement or both. Taking AP courses also demonstrates to college admission officers that students have sought the most rigorous curriculum available to them.
Proud to be part of Humble ISD, Summerwood has onsite schools including Summerwood Elementary and Wood Creek Middle School, along with private preschools also located within the community. Summer Creek High School is right across the Sam Houston Tollway from this wooded, 1,500-acre community.
For higher education, Summerwood™ is located only 15 miles from Lone Star College - Kingwood, part of the North Harris Montgomery Community College System. Another Lone Star campus is being built just minutes up West Lake Houston Parkway. And thanks to the convenient Summerwood location on Beltway 8, residents can easily access other colleges and universities throughout the Houston area like the prestigious Rice University, often called the Harvard of the Southwest, the University of Houston, the University of St. Thomas, Houston Baptist and many others.
The new Summerwood HEB, located within the community, makes picking up whatever you need even more convenient. The Shops at Summerwood™ have services ranging from karate classes and pedicures to Mexican food. Deerbrook Mall is also very convenient to the community. And with easy access to all Houston has to offer, you'll find everything you need within a few miles of your home and an ever-expanding array of options growing right before your eyes.
